What is a Narcissist?

I didn't know anything about Narcissism  until I spoke with my therapist, doctor and a friend who had been in a relationship with one.

They opened my eyes and as I spoke to more people about it and shared my experiences I got more validation and information realizing OMG this is what I am experiencing within my family dynamics.

I hope I can offer some information to help you explain certain behaviors within you family, friendships or relationships that may offer comfort.

What is Narcissism
Narcissism is a self-centered personality style characterized as having an excessive preoccupation with oneself and one's own needs, often at the expense of others. Wikipedia

Definition from  Cleveland Clinic
A narcissist is someone who has an excessive preoccupation with themselves and a strong need for admiration, often at the expense of others' feelings. This behavior can be part of a mental health condition known as narcissistic personality disorder (NPD).

I am going to paste articles i found explaining this personality disorder.

I am not a therapist or a doctor I am just sharing information with you.

After knowing something wasn't right I went to therapy and many feelings got validated as they explained about narcissism.

I understanding this journey of understanding this diagnosis will take time. As with other issues in my life I have always been willing to do the work it takes to understand a situation.

If I have a better understanding maybe I will be more empathetic and able to understand and handle those feeling that come up within the family dynamics. I am trying not to walk away as I see my family member being controlled by this person.

Sadly it affects all of  us.  Just know if you are in this place you are not alone. So many others are experiencing this in their life, too.
